Member Spotlight: Kim Cannella

From Coach Pete: Kim’s success in the gym is a direct result of her ability to be coachable as well as her incredible consistency. She just recently hit her 3 year Roaster Barbell anniversary and she seems to really be hitting her stride in all aspects of her fitness. Its been an awesome experience to watch Kim grow into the athlete she is today and I look forward to continuing to watch her grow even more. Thank you Kim for being such a positive influence on our community!

1 – What is your “why”? What gets you out of bed in the morning?
The opportunity to learn, grow, and help others every day. I strive to continue to better myself on a daily basis and to help others grow as well.
2 – If you could accomplish 1 thing in the next 10 years, athletically or professionally, what would that be?
If I could accomplish one thing in the next 10 years it would be to continue to stay fit and maintain a healthy/active lifestyle.
3 – What brought you to Roaster Barbell?
My sister, Tina. She kept bugging me that I should go to this gym with her after work. One day I finally decided I would give it a shot. I had no idea what I was doing when I showed up and everything being talked about was like a foreign language to me because this was the first real gym I had ever been too. Once I started showing up with Tina on a regular basis I was hooked and it has been one of the best additions to my life.
4 – What is your favorite thing to do in the gym?
My favorite thing to do at the gym is any of the gymnastic movements.
5 – What is your least favorite thing in the gym?
My least favorite thing used to be the assault bike, but now since those are gone I would have to say wallballs…short girl problems.
6 – If you would meet anyone in history and have lunch with them, who would it be and why?
JK Rowling. She is a best-selling author in history and created my most beloved book series Harry Potter. I grew up reading the books and watching the movies. She created a world that felt so real to me and I would like to learn more about her creative process in developing the series.
7 – How has your training in the gym impacted your life outside of the gym?
Training in the gym has impacted my life outside of the gym by making me feel more accomplished and I think just helping me feel more confident in myself.
8 – In your opinion, what is the most important aspect of life?
The most important aspect in life is family. My family means the world to me and I couldn’t imagine my life without them. They have helped and continue to help shape me into the person I am today.
9 – If you could be any professional CF Games Athlete, who would you be and why?
Any of them. They are all very inspiring. I think just being able to make it to the CF Games is an amazing accomplishment and shows how much hard work and dedication they have.
10 – What aspects of health and fitness do you find most difficult and why?
Healthy diet. I love food and it is very hard for me to have self control and turn down anything that might be considered unhealthy.
11 – If you had the choice, would you rather have infinite strength, or infinite cardiovascular endurance?
Infinite cardiovascular endurance.
12 – What would you say to someone that asks you about the gym and was looking to get started?
I would tell them that Roaster Barbell is a great place to start their fitness journey. Pete is truly a fantastic coach and the community at Roaster Barbell is phenomenal. Everyone is so welcoming and accepting of of each other, regardless of what level of fitness you are at. I know when I first started I was nervous and slightly intimidated but quickly realized everyone is there for the same reason; to get a good workout in, improve on themselves, and to support one another.
13 – Do you have anything else you would like to add?
Keep showing up and do your best and you will continue to see improvement!
